It's not a smaller version. It's just another convention in January in LA. haha.

I like Anime LA. I've been going since 05. It's a small, fan friendly con. It's a chill con to hang out with people. What sets it apart from other cons are the little touches, like the con suite (free snacks and drinks during the entire con!), the fun cosplay scavenger hunts, and the cosplay repair station (because we all have our little accidents).

There also give out ribbons with unique titles, like Cosplayer, Gamer, Jailbait (for reals), and a bunch of other random titles. The fun part is figuring out who's giving them out and how to get them. It's pretty much a game in itself. Some people go all out and have like 30 or 40 ribbons attached to their badges by day 3.

Oh yeah, since the con takes place in January, you can wear your heavy, long sleeved cosplay without sweating like crazy like you would at a summer con. :)

Oh con conflict. Taiyou Con is also the same weekend in AZ. XD Oh no!

There shouldn't be an overlap because both are smaller, local cons that mostly attract local attendees. If I had to choose, I'd go to Taiyou Con because I've never been to a con in Arizona, but alas, I don't think I can make the trip. D:

There's always next time. Is Anime LA like expo? Without the size.

Mmm, not really. It's just like any other small anime con, except for those little amenities I listed up there. AX feels like an event...ALA feels more like hanging out at a hotel with otakus and cosplayers. It's not worth flying out to check out like Fanime, but it's a nice little con if you're in the area.

I won't be going. Because we are having our own con here in AZ. Brought to you by Aftercon. Called Taiyou Con!

I think Fanime is also the same weekend as one of our cons here. When is Fanime? Memorial Day Weekend?
