Yes, I'm 50 (that's not a typo), and I absolutely LOVE anime and manga, and I'm definitely here looking for friends, but that does not mean I'm hanging here looking for a (*ahem*) date. I'm quite married, and I have a teen daughter who is also a big anime fan. ^_^ But I'm always open to socialize with any sort of friendly people!

Now, what sort of person am I? I'm an all-around music person. Period. I sing professionally, I teach private music lessons (voice and piano), and composer and songwriter. I don't simply admire pictures of Miku Hatsune, I work with her professionally all the time. ~_^

At first, I may come across as stodgy and stoic, but then often out of the blue I'll surprise you with my very *dry* sense of humor. And then after that it's all downhill until you start screaming from emotional abuse.

As you see, there are two major sides to my tastes. One, the really serious, even angsty romantic (Harima: "I'd die for you, Tenma!" and Keitaro: "Why would Naru ever go for a loser like me?") and the other, the totally insane nut. And you'll never know which side of me you'll have to deal with at a given time.

That's me, in a nutshell.
Badge of Honor
My past conventions...:
I go to anime cons whenever I can, which is around 3 times per year. There aren't that many cons around my area, so I'm jealous of fans who live around heavily populated areas.
My past cosplays...:
There aren't too many cosplay characters for people my age. So, I never cosplayed until late in 2009, when I took the plunge and wore a rented Victorian outfit (with a top hat) at the local con. The fans loved it, and at least a dozen took my picture. Heh, I looked more like Dr. Jekyll, but people there told me, "You look like (so-and-so) from (some anime or manga, I forget what--maybe Raven from Pandora Hearts?)." So that worked well, and I plan to do some more!
Things I Like!
General Interests:
I don't watch much TV, but I often tune in to Keith Olbermann. I'm also a frequent reader of democraticunderground.com.

I have an account at niconicovideo, and am addicted to some of the totally bizarre jpop AMVs from over there.
Anime Interests:
I'm mostly drawn to "realistic" romantic comedies, less so towards fantasy/sci fi/space/magical themes. I'd say my overall favorite so far is Love Hina--it's got a downright intoxicating love story that I couldn't get enough of. Next to that is School Rumble (Harima/Tenma? Harima/Yakumo? Harima/Eri? For the life of me, I can't choose...but it's all good).

I go to anime cons whenever I can, which is around 3 times per year. There aren't that many cons around my area, so I'm jealous of fans who live around heavily populated areas.

Anime/Manga (I love all of these, and highly recommend each):

* Love Hina (anime: complete)
* School Rumble (anime: complete)
* Full Moon wo Sagashite (anime: complete)
* Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne (anime: complete)
* The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (anime: all of season 1)
* Kare Kano / His and Her Circumstances (anime: about 30%)
* Fullmetal Alchemist: (anime: I think I've seen all episodes up to #26, and also the first 6 episodes of FMA: Brotherhood)
* Nurse Witch Komugi (anime: complete, including the rare Magikarte Z-1 and Z-2)
* Neon Genesis Evangelion (anime: complete)
* The Soul Taker (anime: complete)
* Spirited Away (movie: complete)

Also, I have a cursory familiarity with:

* Ouran High School Host Club (anime: the first 6 episodes or so)
* Code Geass (anime: the first 5 episodes or so)
* Princess Tutu (anime: I've seen the first 4 episodes so far...it's pretty involved, but quite cool!)
* Tenchi Muyo (anime: the first 2 episodes)
* Sailor Moon (various eps and movies, don’t remember which ones)
* Gurren Lagann (I've seen the movie, and one or two anime eps)
* Ruroni Kenshin (a couple eps of the anime series)
* Kanon (anime: I've just started getting into this--both the 2002 and 2006 versions, that is.)
* KissxSis (anime: the first few episodes. If you don't like ecchi, don't watch or read this one--it's just one level below hentai! @_@ Even so, take away the softcore porn, and I'd think the twin sisters to be just as adorable! I was practically rooting for Kei, Ako, and Riko to run away and live happily ever after in a bigamous marriage. XD I do have issues with some of the material, particularly with the character Miharu--when it comes to ecchi or hentai, I'm very picky about what I like--see next entry below.)
* Please, Teacher (anime: the first two episodes). After seeing clips of this in AMVs and such, I was thinking I'd really love it...it appeared to be a sweet romance between a guy and his older teacher. However, after seeing 2 eps at a con, I was really disappointed...the ecchi scenes in it are horribly contrived and unconvincing. If you're going to have sex scenes, fine, but they need to be seamlessly interwoven within the plot and action. Not "oh, let's put a sexy thing here." Also, on a side note, if the sex involves someone underage, or someone becoming hurt or humiliated, no thanks--I'll take a pass.)
* Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt (anime: episode 12 only). I happened to stumble upon someone's journal at deviantArt, that had a link to episode 12 of this anime. The journal promised it would be pervy and hilarious. Well, they got that right...it is VERY pervy and VERY hilarious! (The "pervy" part isn't raunchy, just silly. Still, this is definitely NOT work or school-safe, or for little kids!) I will probably go back and watch other episodes later. Since discovering the anime two weeks ago, I'm finding a lot of references to it at deviantArt and other places, so I guess it's becoming a big hit.

Manga Interests:
* Love Hina (manga: complete)
* School Rumble (manga: about 80%)
* Full Moon wo Sagashite (manga: complete)
* Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne (manga: complete)
* Absolute Boyfriend (manga: complete; also, the first few episodes of the live-action series)
* Kare Kano / His and Her Circumstances (manga: complete)

Also, I have a cursory familiarity with:

* Nodame Cantabile (manga volume 1)
* Gentlemen's Alliance Cross (manga: chapters 1 & 2 so far)
* Negima! (manga: skimmed through volume 1)
* Tokyo Mew Mew (manga volume 1)
* Oh! My Goddess (manga: partial readings of various manga issues)
* A.I. Love You (manga: volume 1)
Music Interests:
Classical; J-Pop/Rock; DDR, anime, and game music.
Gaming Interests:
I'm not too big of a gamer; I'll dabble occasionally with Wii games or PC military strategy games. Emphasis on "occasionally."
Wii: Wii Play, Wii Resort, Wii Sports, Wii Ski, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, DDR.
PC: Medieval Total War, MVP Baseball. I've tried Team Fortress 2...I suck at it.
